i am turning it into different use.
due to its huge space, historical background and location, what would you like to turn it into? a new develpoed market? an apartment? commercial building or what?

Im a Forth year student in an Interior Architecture course in Dublin. For my final project I have decided to use the Gingerbread House on Paul Street Cork (hope people know it!!!). I have decided to change its use into maybe a bar with restaurant on Ground floor, and an area for Gigs and stand up comedians. Maybe incorporating retail or late nite coffee area??? for those who may not wish to drink!!!!

Conept would be influenced by the culture and the music, since it is located at Rory Gallagher Place. I would also aim for the older crowd, over 23’s as I find there are not many bars to go to that are not dominated by first years and 18 year olds!!!! (could i be wrong????) I need feed back on my ideas…. those of you in Cork!!!! would really appreciate this! Would help me a lot and become more confident in my design!

      thanks 🙂

What is interior architecture? I understand that it places the emphasis on the interiors, but it is something that has become more commonplace in recent years. Is it just a different name for the interior designers that have always been around (perhaps fed up with all the ‘interior designers’ cropping up on television who have been to habitat a few times)? Or does it go further than that? There appears to be an interior architecture course going on Ireland, if so does it concentrate on fit-outs or is the interior architect more involved in the overall space making.

Does the main architecture course not really deal with interiors, is it more of an exterior architecture? Any ideas?

Interior design without cushions or throws.

I think its more about interior space whereas interior design always seemed to me about picking out stuff to fil the space.

      I could be wrong though…

The interior course in Ireland is not accessed through the CAO it’s a private course. In Griffith I believe. And it is shorter than the norm of 5 years. The main UCD/DIT Architecture courses deal with interior spaces aswel as the rest, but interior architecture deals with the topic and nothing else. Also goes into much deeper detail I would imagine.
