I am looking at examples of landmark buildings fronting water. Sea, river lake etc. Any quality contemporary examples spring to mind?

Closer to home the millenium tower in Grand Canal Basin is refreshing in the sea of crud that’s piling up in the rest of the Docklands

There’s some work going on at the Waterways centre this week – it’s all fenced off and there’s diving crews pottering around and some heavy concrete blocks moved in…

For a good guide on waterfront residential architecture, there is a book unfortunately in Spanish called Casas A La Playa, published by Sagafalabela .

However there does not seem to be any boats there yet. There is no evidence to suggest that it is permanent in that there are no poles sticking up out of the water, but then again they might not need them in a canal. This section of Dublin is changing extremely rapidly. It’s hard to keep up!

The marina will be permanent. I thought I saw some mention of the canal passage being put underground through the dock (between Pearse Street bridge and Grand Canal Dock railway station) to facilitate more berthing spaces but don’t quote me on that. It would be well worth checking out exactly what they are doing there.

That would be a particularly massive project, would’nt it? Particularly for what would be achieved in the end!
