ParticipantU2 Studios……Should they stay or should they go?
Great musical cultural heritage Vs. public eyesore.

ParticipantIts destruction would be akin to the destruction of the Beatles Cavern Club in Liverpool ( no great architectural masterpiece either, but that’s not the point)– which was destroyed in the late 60s but subsequently a mock one was “rebuilt†on the orders of the Liverpool City authorities when the area around the old Cavern site was being developed in the early 80s.
The “new mock Tavern†is now naturally a magnet for thousands of tourists and is high of the list of Liverpool city tour heritage sites – big regrets in Liverpool (now) that the original Cavern was destroyed in the first place.

ParticipantMaybe it would be wise not to demolish it then…..or maybe if it was demolished a new and more aesthetic landmarkish studio could be built and maybe U2 could record their many forthcoming albums there…..there’s plenty of life in those old dogs yet.

ParticipantI used to work in that area (in fact in the very building you’re discussing). Sure, it’s nothing special, but the reference to the cavern club in Liverpool is quite accurate: it’s an important area of Dublin culturally, and will probably only grow in meaning and stature.
The graffiti in the area gives it a very bizzare charm as well, and could almost be compared with the Abbey Road graffiti for the Beatles, but just more colourful (and sometimes nothing to do with U2). I think it’s a nice street, and would gladly live there, graffiti and all.
