Design and the Solar Option: A Proactive Response to Climate Change

Jeremy Leggett will give a public lecture on March 13th(7.30 – 9.30pm ; €15.00) entitled ‘Connecting Peak Oil and Climate Change’ at the Cultivate Living and Learning Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin. Jeremy has been described by Time Magazine as “one of the key players in putting the climate issue on the world agenda.” He was an award-winning scientist, oil industry consultant, and Greenpeace campaigner before setting up ‘solarcentury’, the UKs fastest growing tech company. His first book, The Carbon War, has been described by the Sunday Times as “the best book yet on the politics of global warming.” He is a director of the world’s first private equity renewable energy fund, Bank Sarasin’s New Energies Invest AG.

Jeremy is a prominent contributor to the climate and energy debate with regular media appearances in the UK and worldwide. Solarcentury’s experience is unrivalled in the UK, having completed over 500 commercial and public sector installations since 1999 and thousands of homes through our national network of associate installers. Not tied to any one manufacturer, solarcentury’s primary concern is to offer the best renewable energy solution to suit planning needs, budgets, and architectural demands.

This lecture by Jeremy Leggett is the first of a six week lecture series which aims to demystify the issue of climate change, prepare us for its implications and suggest possible responses we can make in a number of different areas. Topics include: The Science of Climate Change With Brendan Mc Williams and Patrick Finnigan, The Ethics of Climate Change With Fr. Sean McDonagh, The Economics of Climate Change With Richard Douthwaite, Development and Climate Change – With Lorna Gold and Osin Coughlan, and Biodiversity and Climate Change – With Dr. Mathew Jebb.
