Dublin’s first observation tower opens in Smithfield Dublin City’s first observation tower opened today at Smithfield. It is located in the 170-foot James’ Distillery Chimney and provides visitors with a panoramic 365-degree un-obscured view of the city skyline. The renovated tower is part of the £65 million development of the Smithfield area.

The viewing tower on top, with its bog-standard curtain wall, looks a tad underwhelming. Yaaaaaaawwwn!!

I’m doing a dissertation about the development of Temple Bar and how it has affected the rest of the city. Does anyone think that the route from Henry St. to Smithfield will develop in a strong enough fashion so as to draw people as far as the new square. Does anyone think that the new pedestrian bridge across the Liffey will increase footfall in the Smithfield area?
