The project has cost a staggering €90 million, over double what was originally intended! How that amount can even be consumed by a single building, lavish or not, one really would wonder…
I suppose the new bedroom wing and ‘spa’ consumed much of the funds.
I was waiting with a group of people to cross the site entrance at the rear a couple of months ago, and stacks upon stacks of browny-red bathroom marble counter tops were being piled up alongside us – you could literally run your hand over the slinky (cellophaned) surfaces. Goodness knows the only opportunity most of us will ever have 😀
It would also appear that the Shelbourne garage in the Georgian house across the road is also finally being restored, which is great to see.
