Hi
There was a question asked on Pat Kenny’s radio quiz last week that someone here might know the answer to. There’s a reward of a bottle of chianti for information leading to me collecting the very attractive prize! An archive piece was played in which a guy talked about a monument that had suffered two explosions during the last century. The first he said was a crank who in 1952 forced the lock and got in placing two small explosives that did little damage. We were told that he wasn’t talking about Nelson but that was all we were given. I thought it might be Wellington but I cannot see how you could force a lock to get into it. Then I thought it was the old Gough statue in the park but it was bombed in ’44 and ’57 but I don’t think it was hit in ’52 also I dont think it had an entrance.
Any ideas? I’m unning out of time on this and I think it is the last answer between me and a fair shot at a 5K holiday in Tuscany 😉Thanks

Could it be the statue of Victoria on her horse, originally on Dame street then moved to the lawn of Leinster House and finally shipped off to the Victoria Institute in Australia. The dates I’m not sure of.

Thanks for your interest.
There’s no mention at all of where it is. They do say that it is a monument dedicated to someone. The speaker has an educated irish accent.
If your interested you can hear the real audio at : http://www.rte.ie/rams/ecs/radio_weekly/mon/pkenny3.ram
Its question 30 – timed @ 33Minutes and 20 seconds. As it happens, if anyone has nothing better to do, I’m also looking for for confirmation of the composer of q85(1hour32minutes) and any more opinions (I’ve already got a dozen)on the county of origin of the speaker in q50 (@50 minutes). Unfortunatly I’m running out of time on this I’ll have to sign off on it tomorrow night.
