It is great to see this end of town improving. Thomas St fire station has been earmarked to be revamped by the National College of Art & Design. The college is currently seeking planning permission to convert the fire station premises to studio, tutorial and community arts use.
Its a fine building. Now we need a use for the Dorset Street one, which looks very forelorn surrounded by Corporation flats.
I`m sorry…please forgive my ignorance of architecture…I`m just a boring housewife…but stumbled upon this whilst looking for all things about my irish family….I take it this is Thomas st fire station dublin…can anyone mail me if possible with any information??….my grandfather was a fireman at the station In the 1940`s any info would be appreciatted..thanks
A little off topic but regarding your query.
Dublin Fire Brigade is run by Dublin Corporation, they are the persons who would hold service records for firemen (as they all were then) and you should try them. Information about living persons may not be available. They have a website, archives dept etc.
Have a look at some of the Irish Genealogy websites for more details about researching your ancestors.
