I see that the Murphy’s Laughter Lounge aka former ugly looking concrete blank walled mass…..as in Screen/Odeon and red brick Astor Cinema on the quays were being demolished this morning………anyone know what is going there instead.
Appartments?, New Theatre?…..I remember reading about this before a long time ago but now I can’t remember.Anyone know too what is going to happen to the former Virgin Megastore aka McBirneys across the way?……….Appartments again is it?

New look Liffeyside
A major new Liffeyside development is on the cards for Dublin 1 – complete with a new theatre/bar at basement level.
Distribution and Exhibition Transport Ltd is seeking planning permission for the new mixed use building on five levels at 4-8 Eden Quay/Harbour Court, Dublin 1.
Apart from the basement theatre, the scheme will includes a variety of bars, restaurants, bistros, lounges and dancing area with offices overhead.
Eight 1 and 2 bedroom apartments are also included in the blueprint, together with an eight space stacked garage.
The site presently operates as Murphy’s Laughter Lounge and is fondly remembered by the older generation as the site of the Corinthian Cinema.

As far as I can remember, the Virgin Megastore is being completely overhauled, with a large new ground floor store/department store, and a lot of apartments going overhead.

Any idea what its going to look like? I am a bit concerned taht both Eden and Wellington Quays are being developedin a piecemeal way. There are some fine period structures on each quay and the overall scale of the quays has been quite uniform until now (with the exception of the Irish Press offices). I hope the new development will complement its surrounds.
There is great potential here. Hopefully the Abbey will be able to opt for a river fronting facade and teh proposed pedestrian bridge from Malborough to Hawkins Street will be built. Together with a reductiion of traffic on the quays there should be a chance to creat a nice little entertainments spot on Eden Quay
