Dublin Stringfellows venue shuts down
14 July 2006 17:57
It has been announced that Stringfellows Lap dancing club on Parnell Street, Dublin, has closed down.It ceased trading this afternoon citing it was no longer in a position to meet its financial obligations.
Stringfellows opened on 1 February this year.

The club had been opposed by locals from the outset.
The Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin has welcomed the closure of the club.
Councillor Aodhan Ó Riordain said the news would be well received in the local area.
He said Parnell Street is a residential area and was never suitable for a club of this nature.
It appears the consumer is more dangerous than the nimby as a group.
Any thoughts?

😮 After reading a glowing report on the restaurant in Stringfellows in the Sunday Times I had occasion to visit the premises last month.
After a drink in a lovely renovated church now a pub nearby, (the name escapes me) we passed the protest outside the club, paid the 30 euro door charge…5.90 a pint and 45euro fixed charge for the meal.
All the above may be acceptable, but when having the (2 star) meal to have to endure 30 or 40 requests to “dance†was a pain in the ass !!
I’m no prude, but I cannot see how this place will be missed. -

Kite, Fair dues to you for you comments. Had wondered what it was like; €75 for a dry meal in a strip joint seems fairly, eh, ‘stiff’ to me.(:o )
I dont think itll be missed either. The real question is what tenant next for the particulrly unsuccessful Parnell Centre? I cant help but think that the blank wall non-engaging presence of that building does little for that st – a design failure imo.The church is called St Marys + is one of the oldest classical buildings in the city, being contemporary to Kilmainham Hospital and also by the same architect. That church is a real gem hutton, thanks…
As for Stringfellows, like we say, “I made my excuses and left†-

the church is nice but the bar isn’t great and the restaurant downstairs is pure rubbish. who thought to use chickenwire to sperate dining spaces? the mind boggles.

Yeah, you’re great at them aren’t ya kite ]After reading a glowing report on the restaurant in the Sunday Times [/QUOTE] 😀
But yes, the Parnell Centre is a disaster, especially in the context of Dublin crying out for more retail space.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the place was knocked – it’s such a useless behemoth of a yoke that just doesn’t serve any market. A redvelopment into apartments with modern retail on the ground floor would seem a better bet, as equally wallpaper-like the finished product would probably be… -

Hi all,
Regarding the Parnell Centre, does anyone know who the letting agents/owners are? Any help or general pointer in the right direction of how I might find out would be greatly appreciated.

Jones Lang LaSalle used to do the retail stuff and Morrisseys the licensed stuff. Not sure whether they still do.

That site has been earning its owners a fortune for decades. It was an unauthorised surface car park for years when the site was vacant. I remember being told in the past it has turned out to be one of the best value investments in Dublin property history

HTMeaghar O’Reilly acted for Stringfellow so I presume they are disposing of the demise by way of an assignment or may entrtain a sub-letting depending on the covenant behind you interest.
Intersting location that could do well for the right operator once the poles are replaced with something more native

I have a feeling that dislodging UGC/Cineworld after all the money they spent on the building would be quite difficult 😉 The cinema, bar and restaurant do quite well in there which doesn’t leave much space (apart from the car park) to be redeveloped.

And you can be sure they’d object to any redevelopment of the rest of the complex given the noise and dust problems it’d create. -

The Carpark is the real asset given current planning regulations.
