Came across this really impressive mill in the competition for the new hq for Meath County and Navan Town councils.
Just wondering has anyone more information/ historical photos on Spicers Mill, Navan?
I always think they’re hugely impressive structures. Maybe a new thread on Irish Mills could be started and we could gather some info on them.

This is Emy Mill also known as Corrigans in County Monaghan. This was quite remote but hugely impressive.
Imformed that it was demolished a few years ago. This photo is from 1993 I think.https://archiseek.com/2009/corrigans-or-emy-mill-co-monaghan/
My sister actually lives beside a fully intact one bar the final section of millrace – all the original equipment is still in it.

Converted Mills on the river Fergus in Ennis. Seemingly the apartments were quite dark and cramped inside. Was a decent conversion for its time tho.

Shackeltons isn’t that many years out of business as far as I know…. I’ve often paddled my way in under the mill on the river to where the wheels are to eat my lunch, it’s quite difficult to find a quiet eddy on that stretch of the river just at the weir there…. a really really impressive mill though.
There’s a strong history of mills on the river poddle, Mount Down mills, Ravensdale Mills, Loder Park Mills, Larkfield Mills. There were quite a few of them along the city water course (poddle and later the dodder) but some act or another prevented them from producing certain goods (I think it was flour) on the citys watercourse and so they turned to textiles (or perhaps the other way around – correct me).

couldn’t they power the apartments from the water mill?

This was a fine mill building near Timoleague, County Cork. situated right at the end of the estuary, a nice counterpoint to the friary at the bridge in Timoleague.
I say ‘was’ because it seems to have completely disappeared and there’s some sort of modern industrial farm factory there now. I forgot to date the photographs, but it can’t be more than about ten years ago.
