folks, looking for some ideas of companies to approach looking for some funds to cover the running costs of archeire… currently around 3k per annum not counting my time….

i’ve tried the top 20 construction firms etc with no interest…..

      Why Should We Sponsor Irish-Architecture.com?

Archeire (derived from ARCHitecture EIREann) is the world’s biggest website about Irish architecture, an award-winning online “portal” for information, discussions and essays relating to Irish architecture and has been online since November 1996.

The site provides daily updated architectural news, events, and details of architectural competitions. Free email newsletters for the news items and the competitions reach 2,000 and 20,000 subscribers worldwide respectively.

Archeire also contains much historical data, as well as details on contemporary projects. Sections deal with some of the outstanding figures of Irish architecture of the 20th century – Kevin Roche, Eileen Grey and Michael Scott.

With its thriving discussion forums, Archeire is the place on the Internet for those with a query on Irish architecture, and we receive requests daily via email for further information or contact details on Irish practices and buildings. Archeire was also instrumental in the campaign for the reinstatement of Archers Garage by orchestrating an email campaign over the Internet. This was very successful and resulted in several thousand people sending emails to the planning authorities. Archeire also has a standalone site, Archiseek.com, which is an online directory of architecture-related websites from around the world.

Archeire is the most visible and largest website about Irish architecture on the Internet. It currently has around 180,000 page accesses a month, making it one of the most accessed architecture websites. We have also forged links with other architectural websites throughout the world by setting up the International Competitions Network to share details of architectural competitions throughout the Internet. This has resulted in Irish architectural competitions getting far more publicity worldwide, as the network has over 30 members (one per member country) including large websites in the USA, the UK, Australia and most European countries.

In an ideal world, we would have an ongoing advertising/marketing budget to promote the website in publications such as the “Irish Architect” or “Architectural Review”. However, to date we have had to utilise various other methods of publicity such as our email newsletters. These have proved very successful, allowing us to extend the site’s reach and reminding users about events and new features to the site on a regular basis.

Awards: Archeire has won many awards for its content and community, including two Golden Spiders (the Oscars of the Irish Internet world): one in 1997 for Best Non-Commercial site; and one in 2000 for Best Online Community / Special Interest. It has also been a runner up in 1998. In addition to the two Golden Spiders, Archeire has been singled out by many newspapers and journals including Architectural Review, AJ, The Irish Times, the BBC, the New York Times, The Guardian, and Yahoo.com as a Site of the Week.

Recent Developments: Recently Archeire has been moved to a dedicated Web server to allow further expansion. We have redesigned the site’s appearance to allow for an expanded navigation and to include larger photographs. New sections include an extensive events calendar, a reviews database of books related to Irish architecture and a new commentary column. Also the website of the Irish Landscape Institute has been incorporated, containing its quarterly journal and events.

Did you try the Arts Council?………..they give relatively little or nothing to architecture…perhaps, up until now there was nothing decent for them to invest in…….

Try the financial institutions, the Banks etc who dish out more sponsorship money than anyone and are used to this. 365 Banking or something.

No ideas here, I just hope archeire doesn’t turn into a site plastered with advertising and annoying pop-ups, like a lot of car sites (e.g. autoexpress.co.uk). I have liked archeire for its lack of advertising (thanks Paul), if the site needs ads to keep it up and running, go for it.

      engineering firms?

Rest assured that I don’t want ads plastered all over the site either….. if i find a corporate body willing to sponsor it, note one corporate body, i’ll incorporate their logos into the archeire banner rather than a traditional ad format or popups…..
