I thought this was an excellent documentary. Quite sad in many repects.

Dave Norris does a hilarious rendition of an old Dublin poem by in part four.

      Enjoy. 🙂

I cant help thinking that the most fitting tribute would be to have the Gough memorial back in the park.

I think we have come a long way from the days when it would be routinely attacked.

I would like to think that we have grown up as a nation and are able to celebrate the artist.

Although the documentary didn’t touch on it I understand there are parts of India where there are imperial sculpture parks where all the old statues are rearranged in such a way as they are all on display facing inward on one another. I understand this is done quite tastefully and manages to keep the pieces on public display. Would be a good use for one of the prairies in the phoenix park and would look very dramatic from a distance. A compromise I would favour. There’s a few dodgy ones of our own we could throw in, maybe we could stick Nelson’s noggin on Sean Russell’s body for a bit of prank monkeying around or stick a (decent) Phil Lynott likeness on King Billy’s horse

Foley was a very accomplished sculptor, and like the excellent painter Daniel Maclise etc…are artists that are kinda overlooked today as they were to the forefront of the British Empire when Ireland was part of the club!

I think the 7 minute mark will clear the air…

any way who is the heritage contractor? we know who the arborisks are…

Some should take details photos of the joints and what have you so we have an archiseek record…

Will it be back in place by 2016?
