I didn’t even know this place existed up until last month when I went for a walk around Capel street area.
Green street courthouse and the former debtors prison are two fine (and intimidating) Georgian buildings, such a great surprise to be confronted by the old walls of the prison as you walk in around a corner off Capel street.
I dunno if you noticed that a significant section of the wall to the right of the courthouse is of a different coloured brick as a result of and IRA escape in the 70s which involved blowing up the wall. I lived nearby briefly; I have a vague memory being woken up at about 5 or 6 on a Sunday morning by the noise of the demolition of a further piece of gloomily atmospheric victoriana on the same side of the street at the corner with North King Street. No doubt this developer behaviour was completely above board
