In a little advertised surprise swoop shortly before Christmas Dublin City Council threw down the Gauntlet at the feet of an incredulous Dublin Bus……Well…some Busdrivers at any rate. ๐ฎ
It has fallen to these stout fellows to notice the TWO new 3 Tonne Limit signs which have appeared at the Junction of Stillorgan Rd and Beaver Row.
DCC`s strategic planning could not have been better as this little known Row is the ONLY means of access to Donnybrook Bus Garage, home to over 250 Buses serving a catchment area of 200,000 plus. (Mainly Southsiders)
Neither of the highly conspicious signs have an “Except Buses” plate fitted so one can rule out a mistake on DCC`s part.
We now therefore, have a situation whereby buses having departed this Depot cannot now legally return to it. !So it looks like รขโยฌ60 and 1 PP for every Dublin Bus Driver returning their Bus to this Depot.
With some 250 Buses many using the Depot more than once per day the City Council has hit on a nice little earner indeed.
This is understood to be a pilot programme with a roll out across the remainder of Dublin Bus Depots due in very short order indeed.Donnybrook Garda Station is understood to be recieving extra Templemore Trainee`s in to enable the Gardai to mount an “Operation” which can easily be covered by the National Broadcaster without incurring travel or overnight expenses for the News Gathering crew !!

Ahh…..but I have since learned from a Confusiscan like contributor to a Forum in another place that the relevant leglislation contains a get-out-of-jail-free clause (Seemingly an inherent part of ALL native Irish Leglislation)
In this instance even though TWO signs indicate a 3 tonne weight limit access ban and neither have a stated exemption plate there IS an exemption anyway.
All a driver is required to do is show that they are using the route as a form of ACCESS to a location within the area bordered by the signs…..:rolleyes:Ho Hum….can just see the bright eyed young Gardai snapping their pencils in two as they realize there is yet another “Loophole” which nobody in T-More warned them about !!!! ๐
