New Technologies in Contemporary Theatre Design
Sunday, October 1, 2006. Project Arts Centre, Dublin. 17:30-19:00.

The world of contemporary theatre is changing rapidly and in so many different and fascinating directions in order to address the myriad original and imaginative concepts engaged with by leading international directors, theatre designers and stage architects, who are also employing new technologies in their productions.

They include new creative technologies seamlessly incorporated into the production via set construction, film, animation, and even holograms. Four renowned theatre practitioners who are leading the next wave by embedding these new technical methodologies into their award-winning shows will speak in Dublin. The discussion will be chaired by set designer Sabine d’Argent.

Speakers include Tim Bird and Sam Hopkins from the pioneering agency, Knifedge Creative Network. Tim won the Critics Circle Award for Best Design for his stunning projection design for Sunday in the Park with George. Also on the panel are director and designer Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon. Their acclaimed production, La Tempête, is part of the Dublin Theatre Festival this year. It is a highly unique theatrical experience incorporating state-of-the-art hologram technology. Actors interact seamlessly and surreally with virtual 4D characters as an integral part of the acting ensemble. The characters are life-size one moment and impossibly gigantic the next. Michel and Victor also designed and directed Delerium, the Cirque du Soleil show currently touring North America.

There is no charge for this event.
Ticket applications to theatreforum@ireland.com or (01) 8746582 before Wednesday, September 27.
