Bye Bye Trinity Railings

A partial removal of the Railing at the main entrance to Trinity an paving much of the area was an inspirational idea. It will have a two fold great effect, one to allow the throngs of people who meet here a little more room to wait around also freeing up the footpath once again for those people who maybe years ago could pass freely along without flirthing with injury stepping on the road. Secondly removal of the railings will open up the vista from O’Connell Bridge through to Grafton Street.
This idea which was originally put forward by a highly respected Professor of self same College, will be a welcome improvement to Dublin for those on foot especially considering it will be many years before some of this very busy road space can be given over to pedestrians.for f**ks sake….. this is as bad as the Corpo Alderman who is the 50’s wanted Trinity Cllege Park railing removed for a dual carriageway and the park used as a carpark……
This is a bad idea. It is another subtraction rather than an addition.The railings offer the building some protection against the litter louts.What will become of the two statues of the respective messrs. and the beautiful lawn too.Seemingly this removal of railings business is quite popular.Railings surround many notable churches and important buidings as was the norm and once surrounded many statues in Dublin….Daniel O’Connell’s for example.There is a proposal as well to remove the railings of the park in Jervis street.This hard landscaping business is going a bit too far and just because it’s fashionable today.( they’ll remove them today so as to replace them in 50 years time or whatver.)It’s ironic to think that they may remove Trinity’s railings while across the road they have added them to the central bank.
Don’t forget Eyre Square in Galway.

What about Eyre’s Square in Galway?What class of a big bloody eegit is proposing this removal? I had hoped that the days of ignorance-induced vandalism were behind us.
What a poor reflection on one of the oldest and most illustrious universities in the world, if it happens.The Communications Officer of Trinity College has contact me to say that “there is no truth behind the suggestion”.
Interested to see where the rumour originated.
The wigs in Trinners will repave the front square in green, white & orange cobbles before they remove the railings that
protects them from the marauding barbarians on the ‘College’ Green!!Fantastic idea! Can’t wait! Will make College Green into a proper place rather than a strange chicane for traffic.

Anyway, while waiting for the Luas to materialise would anyone like to speculate on the rationale for the wiremesh placed behind the Nassau St railings? Is it purely for litter control?
Whoever put it up might have done the decent thing and topped it off in line with the uppermost horizontal bar. The way it sticks up now above the tips of the rails is just cheap and nasty!
