ParticipantDoes anyone know what is currently being erected behind the Leisureplex/Draiocht? Are they offices for the council? (I know the transport dept. of Fingal Co Co recently moved house from O’Connell St to Blanch)
Great site by the way. 😉

ParticipantIt looks like whatever is under construction is maxing out at 5 storeys. Blanchardstown is one of the three towns in Fingal according to FCC so I thought they might be moving more staff to the area.

ParticipantAs far as I was aware, the 17 storey hotel was for a site thats currently overgrown and derelict, near one of the outlying units that has atlantic homecare etc in it. its on the blakestown side of the shopping centre. i could be wrong about this though – it’s ages since i first read about it.
the buildings behind the leisureplex are offices for fingal county council. read in one of the local newspapers that its the roads division going in there. seems like theyve been building for ages – its almost as if they keep going ‘ah, sure, throw an extra office block on the end there’. having walked through the courtyard thats now open to the public (its part of a pedestrian route from the Centre to coolmine), it looks a fairly decent job. not quite as eye-catching as the head offices in swords, but to my layman’s eye i thought it was quite impressive! -

ParticipantCheers lads. AFAIK FCC want out of the city centre as is right an proper really. The council’s officials should be based in the county.

ParticipantThis is where the hotel will be (i think). Anybody able to confirm this? it’s certainly a big enough site.

That clashes with the county development plan which still reserves either the 1975 DRRTS alignment for a DART spur from Porterstown to the Town Centre or the orbital metro (which according to PFC would run along roughly this alignment) running parallel to Blanchardstown road south. Note the train tracks leading from Porterstown (future) station to the town centre in this map. Any hotel would have to allow for the railway under it. It would be very interesting to see what happens come construction time for any building on this site. It really detracts from the area at the moment too, just dirtyus srubland. tis awful.
