Don’t get me wrong, PF, I’m not looking for something that will cling to the past. I think high-rise moderns are fantastic and marrying old with new can be done (by some) very well. I would love to see buildings on the outskirts of Tralee or Killarney, Sandyford or Cherrywood that look like la Defense or Futuroscope. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Futuroscope
Why is it that many architects concentrate on the building and its intrinsic merit and ignore the location? The proposed building would block a great view of the setting sun and city skyline from most of the seafrnt when driving from Sandycove. The statement that the block proposed for the C. Pier would make if built is typical of Celtic Tiger Ireland – in-your-face, brash, gaudy and without consideration to its environment or neighbours. Put something modern and of appropriate scale there!
