“This private pavilion, erected at a cost of over £3,000, stands in an enclosure of several acres in the midst of Beddington Park.
The Matlock Bath pavilion was completed around 1884. Also known as the Palais Royal, it wasan ambitious structure with a 228ft frontage of mainly glass.
Most of the grounds that form Maria Luisa Park, were formerly the gardens of the Palace of San Telmo, and were donated in 1893 for use as a public park.
As published in The Building News, September 4th 1903. Unbuilt design, a revised version was constructed and demolished in 1936.
The old Grand Pavilion was situated at the northern end of Royal Prince’s Parade and provided an unforgettable venue for summer shows and local amateur productions.
