The former Convent of Mercy, now the Saint Athanasius Monastery of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The Mercy Order arrived in Cappoquin around 1850,
The monastery was founded on 30 May 1832 at Scrahan, Cappoquin, by a colony of Irish and English monks,
Mount Melleray is a functioning monastery of Cistercian monks. This project required the reordering of part of the monastery to provide a new accommodation wing for the monks.
