Built in 1929 and formerly occupied by Burtons and Woolworths, and now Dunnes Stores. Officially it is Montague Burton Buildings.
The former Burton’s Store on the corner of Dame and South Great George’s Streets is one of the most expressive and exciting facades in the city.
Still extant today, with its distinctive Burton logotype on both facades, and over a doorway on Patrick Street. A stripped classical design with a meander or fret cornice in a glazed faience tile.
The former Burton’s Store on Ann Street is a good example of a restrained Art Deco building designed by Harry Wilson from Leeds.
