Re-Designing Dublin: impressions of recent urban development

Speaker:
Dr. Patrick Malone, Architect, Liguria, Italy.

Originally from Dublin, Dr. Malone trained at the Architecture Association in London and completed a Masters degree at the University of Sussex. He then undertook research for his Doctoral thesis on office development in Dublin in 1985, which proved to be the seminal work in this field. He has lectured in Architecture at Plymouth Polytechnic and at the University of Manchester where he was central to the development of a Masters Course on Urban Design and Regeneration. Dr. Malone has written widely on waterfront regeneration (his edited book “City, Capital and Water” (1996) being a notable example) and is currently in the process of writing a book on urban design. He is currently engaged in the renewal of abandoned village housing in Liguria, Italy. He returns to Dublin infrequently and will present a series of impressions (and has some strong opinions) on the reshaping of the city over the past decade.

A 30-40 minute ‘questions and answers’ programme will follow the seminar paper. Thereafter, we shall adjourn to the Longstone Pub on Townsend St. to continue further discussion.
