Hidden Gems.
Thought that it would be nice to have a thread going with places that individuals here have discovered which they would like to share with others.
I shall start with two. Out by skerries there is Ardgillan Castle which has the most magnificent lawns both to the front of the house and the back. Entry to upstairs is free as they often have art exhibitions on. From the second floor you can get a really fantastic view of the front lawn.
If you fancy a walk, walk down the lawn heading away from the house and you can cross the railway lines via a footbridge to a lovely secluded beach.Another place which i really like is a village called Kilcash outside Clonmel. South facing village which the historic Kilcash castle nearby. There is even an old RIC station near the castle which now serves as a barn.

I’m not sure if it’s a hidden gem, but the moated Drimnagh Castle is certainly in a surprising location.
The small ruined Church near Kevin Street (can someone help me with the name) is also very nice – it’s particularly eerie when you visit at night on Dublin Bus’ Ghost Bus tour!

What’s this church Andrew? Can you give an exact location?
Argillan is magnificent all right – pass it every day on the train too, up on the hill. Isn’t there a story that the family allowed the railway line run through their grounds on the condition that they could stop any train when they wanted to use it? 🙂
