Having rung the RIAI and got a list of architects who specialise in home re-design rather than new-build, I happily started phoning . . and have been told by five different companies in Dublin centre/north that they’re too busy or not interested. I totally understand that people don’t want to take on more work than they can handle, but I don’t know what to do next.

I own a 1920s 1500 sq ft house in Dublin 3 which is in okay condition. I don’t want to re-build the house, just use the space better – keep the ground floor plan as is, reconfigure the first floor so that the teeny bathroom can actually fit a bath, and maybe attempt an attic conversion. I think the term is ‘space consultant’?

How do I find someone willing to take on this job and make my nice home nicer? Pref architecturally-qualified, of course, who is prepared to deal with workmen (window replacements, flooring, etc) and run this as a project (I’d move out for two months, just to get it done start to finish). Money no object (ish).

      Advice welcome.

Use the Golden Pages like everyone else. I hate discussion forums where people post a new thread without searching to find the 100 other identical threads to theirs and then don’t even bother to let people know how they got on. Does this annoy anyone else or do you just not bother replying? 🙁

Jeez he’s just a guy looking for some advice – not a bit of wonder architects get a bad name for being arrogant. If you can’t help then just moooove on.

I don’t know the names of the firms the RIAI gave you but really you’ll be looking for a one man band or a small practice – most architects are just too damn busy.

PM me a contact detail – I’ll ask a pal of mine if he’s interested.

by the way, PM stands for “Private Message” iePM’s don’t get posted.

Care to go 0 for 3?

Thanks for the warm welcome!!! I thought that Archiseek might a good site for someone seeking an architect, so if that’s not the case I’ll end the thread. Burge_eye, I’ve sent a PM.

Ceepee I stand corrected regarding your re-appearance, the point I was making was a general one and NOT directed at you personally, I wish you good luck in finding an architect but would advise that you could have found 20 almost identical threads by using the search function.

Perhaps you need to take a chillpill and not be as abrasive to newcomers?
He asked a question – he deserved an answer – not dumping on him because he didn’t follow some “correct procedure” that exists only in your mind…..

Thanks – you’re right, there are other threads, but mostly suggesting ask around, look up the Golden Pages. My problem was i was getting nowhere – only managed to persuade one person to actually visit the house, the RIAI naturally enough won’t refer one member over another. Friends, family etc – anyone I know just dealt with a builder and didn’t bother geting an architect. I just thought there might be someone on the site who’s interested in picking up some work.

Maybe on previous threads, actual recommendations of people/firms have been made through PM? And maybe that is more appropriate.

      Ceepee,

I’ll do what ever you need done for €2,500 upfront. What ever you need i’ll get you planning for it.

I can start pretty much straight away on your project as my work load has sort of dried up after a certain Prime Time exposure.

      Regards,

      David Grant
