1863 – Powerscourt Church of Ireland, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow

Architect: John Norton

0076

‘Early English’ style church of 1859 by English architect, John Norton, with tower and broach spire, five-bay nave, transept and porch to south. The exterior is in random granite rubble with dressed sandstone to openings, and dressed granite quoins. The spire is clad in copper not the originally specified stone. The only work of Norton in Ireland. The choice of architect was presumably that of Elizabeth, Marchioness of Londonderry, who paid for the church to be built as a present for her son, Mervyn, 7th Viscount Powerscourt, on his coming of age in 1857. Illustration published Illustrated London News, 21 November 1857.
