Designed by Young & Mackenzie and built in two phases for J. C. Mayrs & Co. Ltd, cabinetmakers and house furnishers. The first floor like street level is largely glazed with large windows between Ionic capitals on fluted piers. The first phase built between 1883-84 comprised the Royal Avenue frontage and partial return into Lower Garfield Street.
