1862 – St. John’s Church, Ardamine, Co. Wexford

Architect: George Edmund Street

0044

Erected to the design by George Edmund Street both as a parish Church of Ireland and later as a memorial to Solomon Augustus Richards (1828-74) and Sophia Mordaunt Richards (1829-99) of nearby Ardamine House. The Richards paid for the building, replacing a church of 1829. The rock faced stone work offset by pale Knockavocka stone dressings gives the windswept coastal church a mild polychromatic appearance. The small size of the church does not mean the interior is devoid of architectural detail. Far from it, Street created a beautiful interior.
