With a debt to Kahn’s theory of serviced spaces and services, the Institute for Advanced Studies has a solid spine containing stairs, lift and services, off which hangs an elevated cube for the office and laboratory accommodation. Quite an elegant building, its lack of corner supports gives the building a transparency lacking in so many office blocks.
