After the Bundestag moved back to Berlin, buildings had to be constructed to contain supporting services.

With reunification came the need for institutions to accompany the parliament. Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus was built on the banks of the Spree to house the library and Reference and Research Services of the Bundestag.
