1894 Newcastle Hotel Competition

“As we announced in our issue of November 1st, 1894, the directors of the Belfast and County Down Railway invited Architects to send in designs in competition for a hotel proposed to be erected at Newcastle, Co. Down. The designs submitted were adjudicated upon on the 29th ult., and prizes have been awarded as follows : First Prize- Mr. James J. Farrall, M.R.I.A.I. , 6 Westmoreland-street, Dublin. Second Prize- Messrs . Gibson and Russell, 11 Gray’s- Inn- square, London. Third Prize- Messrs. F. H. Tulloch and Lionel Littlewood, F.S.I. , 39 Victoria-street, London. Mr. Alfred Waterhouse, R.A. , acted as assessor. in may be inspected during the present week, at the Belfast Terminus, on application to the secretary.” The Irish Builder, April 1, 1895.
