The church was built in 1884-7 by the architect Hugh Roumieu Gough.
“Our illustration shows the design for the new church which is shortly to take the place of the present unsightly and inconvenient building.
Opened in 1888 and closed in 1982.
The design for this new church was made an open competition.
The initial design, illustrated, was by James Brooks.
