The Cathedral of the Assumption is the fourth church to be built on this site. The first one recorded was a Carmelite church built in the early fourteenth century.
The present-day entrance gates, offices and mortuary chapel at Glasnevin were designed by J.J. McCarthy (1817 -1882),
The Roman Catholic church, St Mary of the Angels was designed by the leading church architect J.J.
St Mary’s Priory was founded in 1855. In May 1864 the foundation stone for the Priory buildings was laid by Rev.
