The Pumphouse originally served the Alexandra Graving Dock alongside, located on the other side from the Thompson Graving Dock of 1911.
The dock was constructed by the Belfast Harbour Commissioners and opened in 1911. It was designed to accommodate the new White Star liners Olympic and Titanic.
With a long sandstone and brick elevation to the street, this three-storey office block was built in stages between 1900-1912. The building was the administration and drawing office centre for the Harland &
