Green Blankstein Russell Associates

Formed by Lawrence J. Green, Cecil N. Blankstein, and G. Leslie Russell who were all Winnipeg-born and received their architectural training at the University of Manitoba. Briefly Green, Blankstein, Russell and Ham. GBR became the pre-eminent modernist firm in Manitoba, and was responsible for designing several of the iconic modernist buildings in the province including Winnipeg City Hall and the airport. GBR had a national presence in the mid-century period, and in 1954 won a competition for a new building to house the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, never constructed. In 2004 the 35-person offices of GBR Architects was acquired by Edmonton-based Stantec
