In 1889 South Dakota became an independent state.
The Saskatchewan Legislative Building was built between 1908 and 1912 in the Beaux Arts style to a design by Edward and William Sutherland Maxwell of Montreal.
The plans were prepared by architect Edward White with Aston Webb by request of the Canadian prime minister while in England in the summer of 1912.
This was the last of the major provincial legislatures to be constructed and reminiscent of the large 19th century City Halls of the UK.
