Gothic chapel designed by the County Surveypr for the Sisters of Mercy convent. The spire on the short tower is quite distinctive.

The Sisters of St Margaret, an order of women in the Anglican Church, were founded in 1855 by Dr John Mason Neale at Rotherfield,
The foundation stone was laid April 19th 1867, with the school opening on March 28th 1868.
The Convent of Mercy opened June 9th 1868 with a later extension by Harte &
Extending an already established convent, Ashlin designed a new wing comprising recreation hall and dormitory, and chapel.
Church added by Ashlin to existing convent of around 1846.
Although a convent and school still exists on this site, the buildings illustrated are either gone or unrecognisable. The school was started in 1857 when they took over the house with curved bays seen in the centre of the shot.
