A branch of the Bank of Montreal had existed on this site since 1886.

Rebuilt between 1921-23. Counters an awkward site with two chamfered corner entrances.

A fine small classical revival building with heavy baroque terracotta to the rear of the earlier tower.
This building was designed by architects Kent and Massie as the headquarters of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney.
