After the destruction of the interior of Cork Courthouse in a fire in early 1891, an architectural competition to rebuild it was held. Thirteen entries were submitted, with that of W.H. Hill successful. The authors of three selected designs were found to be “Justitia” Mr William H. Hill FRIBA 15 Marlborough Street, Cork; “For Auld Syne” Sir Thomas Newenham Deane and Son, Dublin; and “Order” Mr William Stirling, 3 Molesworth street, Dublin.
