At the core of Ross House is a classical house of around 1783. Alexander Cullen extensively remodelled the house around 1888-90 in a full-blooded Scots Baronial style.
St Michael’s Church dating from the 12th Century is embedded in the Synod Hall of Christ Church Cathedral.

Browne most often employed brick in his symmetrical compositions; his work at Strevel Terrace, 1889-90 can be recognized by their absence of applied decoration and by the projecting horizontal band courses of brick that surround his buildings.

The former Tropical Fruit Company warehouse is a fine warehouse from the 1890s, with two gables facing on the quays. It has two original keystones from Carlisle bridge which were too large for the reconstructed O’Connell Bridge of 1880.
