1180c. – St. Mochta’s House, Louth, Co. Louth
St Mochta was a disciple of St Patrick, who established his abbey in Louth around 528, and also built an this stone house nearby, named Mochta’s House. The Abbey lasted through the centuries to the suppression of the monasteries by Henry VIII. St Mochta’s House still remains intact and is a notable landmark around Louth village. It is a rectangular building with a vaulted roof, with a chamber above with a pointed vault, reachable by an internal stair.
