RSUA 2010 Awards announced
The architect of a house on the shores of Strangford Lough has won the biggest prize at a recent ceremony honouring the work of Northern Ireland’s architects. Neil Darby received the Liam McCormick Prize for Architecture for his work on the house in Sketrick Island in Killinchy, Co Down.
The house was praised by the judges for “achieving something special “” confident and without gratuitous gestures, combined with the controlled use of a few essential moves that make enduring architecture.”
Other winners included Consarc Design Group, for its work on St Malachy’s Church in Belfast and BDP for Victoria Square in Belfast. McGarry-Moon Architects won the Wood Award for Fallahogey House and Studio.
The judging panel was chaired by Frank McDonald, environment editor of the Irish Times and also featured Michael McGarry, Queen’s University professor of architecture
