The Merchants Bank of Canada, later merged into the Bank of Montreal in 1923, was the first bank established in Canada, and the first to establish branch banking. This branch cost $40,000 to construct. The Wetaskiwin Branch began as a humble frame building on what was then known as Railway Street West. Demolished.
