“The accompanying drawings from last season’s Royal Academy Exhibition illustrate the Bishop of Bristol’s house, erected from the designs of Mr. W.D. Caroe, M.A., the architect to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. The plan which accompanies the perspectives displays the arrangement of the reception-rooms and private chapel— a feature which obtains recognition in the treatment of that part of the house. The chaplain’s room adjoins the library, and the spacious central hall is reached by way of a vestibule from the entrance – porch, which is placed in the angle between the kitchen wing and the house proper. The dining-room is situate towards the gardens, which are also commanded from the drawing-room bay windows.”
