This is back in the news again. Amazing wee story.

See here on Blogorrah: http://blogorrah.com/come-on-feel-the-noise-father-pat-saved.html, which I think is quoting from here (subs required): http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2007/0524/1179498727032.html

There’s also a wikipedia entry for it now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father_Pat_Noise, on which there’s an archiseek link at the bottom. (And archiseek comes up first for a Google search on “Fr Pat Noise”. Sweet.

(Has any of the street art such as the arrow pointing upwards; or the atari-man embedded in walls turned up in Dublin at all? I’ve seen these from London to Vienna to Barcelona.)

This is what they’re doing in Barcelona’s Placa Cathedral. I spotted this last night as I walked through. Red X represents replacement req’d.

It was a sad day from an historical perspective to see the O’Connell Street planes go…

Here’s my historical perspective. When I first came to Dublin as a kid, one Christmas, I distinctly remember the Christmas lights lighting up the trees on Dublin’s O’Connell Street and thinking how beautiful they were. I had to be about eight or so. Me, my burger, and the Christmas lights.

And now they are no longer, and I feel saddened. It’s just a personal recollection. I would have thought they could have been trimmed, of tidied in some other way, anything other than chopping them down outright.

That aerial shot makes me feel all tingly – I’d love to go back there for a day and have a stroll around. Catch a tram. See if any of the pubs of today are still in place and go in for a pint.

    @Graham
    – when you say “Provost’s tranquil gardens”, where would I find this on the aerial shot.

And a newbie question – when you guys are referring to abbrev WSC what is it you’re meaning?

    Few more details.

Cafe Bar Deli opens officially at 5pm on Tuesday May 24th. Here’s the section of the CBD site specifically related to this – opening times are posted thereon: http://www.cafebardeli.ie/graftonstreet_index.html

Check out how many seats they say CBD will have.

Soon after a fish restaurant will also be placed within the building, see here: http://www.mackerel.ie

A Breakfast at Bewleys concept is underway too – see here: http://www.bewleysbreakfast.com and/or http://www.dublinbreakfast.com

And when in the Bewleys Cafe site as listed above in previous post, see http://www.bewleyscafe.com/mezzanine.html for details on coffees and food-to-go etc.

Opening date and opening time herein also listed.

(I hear they’re putting a coffee roaster in too – the only one in a retail outlet in Ireland.)(Another domain registered for this business is http://www.bewleysgraftonstreet.com/)

One thing not noted above is that CBD is also in Cork, and Sligo, not just in three Dublin locations. I hear more to come before year’s end. See here for Cork http://www.cafebardeli.ie/cork_index.html and here for Sligo: http://www.cafebardeli.ie/sligo_index.html
