ParticipantNice design, what’s the height in storeys? Hard to make it out
WillC
ParticipantThanks lads. This thread has given me the chance to express my opinion about Bertie Ahern.
I HATE BERTIE AHERN (with a passion) .
That felt soooooo good to say. Almost orgasmic.
WillC
ParticipantBrilliant. Still probably a bit too modern for Dublin though !
WillC
ParticipantHey ! Just saw my quote in the Indo Article. What’s this about free registration !!!!?????
WillC
Participant“Some of architecture’s biggest names both here and abroad are expected to vie for the chance to create what the company says will be “a major cultural attraction of national importance”. This description has been kept deliberately ambiguous to encourage designers to flex their imaginations. The sky is, quite literally, the limit.”
The sky’s the limit ? Yeah right. Really. Yes. How can the sky be the limit when a plan for 19 storeys was just shot down. Even a building half that height would be torn to shreds by spoilsports An Taisce
WillC
ParticipantAnyone know where I can see an image of the planned new tower in ballymun? 19 storeys ! Wow, still can’t believe it !!!
WillC
ParticipantUghhhh !!!! Just back from holidays and heard about the Dun Laoghaire baths site. Knew it would be too good to be true that the tower would be built. It would have looked fantastic. Too ambitious and too modern for Ireland though. Lets leave everything old, derelict, monontonous, boring or ugly so that conservative f*****g twats don’t get upset from evil modern tall buildings. Wish that generation, who always seem to get their way would all go into retirement and emigrate.

ParticipantI was really shocked when I heard about the cows.
This city is populated by a disproportiately large amount of scum. Scumbags and people stoned off their heads on every street corner. People shooting up outside tourist attractions, and little toe rags demanding money from passers by. The city can never gain a good reputation as long as it’s crawling with low lifes.
Wish I, or someone !, could clear the streets of these useless low life ‘people’ who have no respect for anything or anyone. They make me sick to my stomach.
WillC
ParticipantNo I’m not actually. sorry to ruin your theory
WillC
ParticipantSorry if I offended anyone in calling this place a banana republic, but spending at least 3 hours in traffic every day has made me very cynical!
WillC
ParticipantThe main problem with the M50 is the ridiculous roundabouts at every major junction. Whoever heard of traffic lights on roundabouts? I’ve never seen traffic lights on roundabouts in any other country.
Anyway these roundabouts are a cheap solution to proper interchanges – every major junction on the M50 should of the clover leaf design, eliminating the need for traffic lights. Traffic would be able to move freely without having to stop at lights. I constantly think how much easier my life would be if it wasn’t for the penny pinching and stupid design of these ‘interchanges’.
Because of these stupid designs it takes forever to get into town from Lucan and Blanchardstown etc.
I hope the planners have learned from previous mistakes and construct proper interchanges on the remainder of the M50, but will not hold my breath. This is Ireland after all, and dare I say it, a banana republic in many respects.

ParticipantBluefoam,
I agree completely. There’s no real infrastructure at all in Lucan and the ‘N4’ is a joke of a road, especially at that junction with the M50. There’s no railway station in Lucan either even though it lies very close to the main Dublin – Cork railiway line.
I completely agree with any Adamstown objections due to the lack of infrastructure in Lucan, but a website that was set up so that thousands of people could object to the development had a statement prepared on the website. People simply clicked on an icon on the page and they were added to a list of people that were opposed to the development.
One sentence on the ‘prepared’ list of reasons behind the objection stated that in addition to a lack the lack of infrastructure, the development contained elements that were too high.
Although I wanted to object to the development due to the lack of infrastructure, I wasn’t against the high rise elements of Adamstown but couldn’t register this on the website. Someone else had also decided that buildings in Adamstown would be too high on my behalf!
I supposed I’m a bit biased in that I like tall buildings, but I don’t like the way Lucan has developed into miles and miles of low rise housing estates.
WillC
ParticipantI live in Lucan and the proposed Adamstown development was originally supposed to have 15 storey residential buildings in it, but Oh my God ! 15 storeys was considered to be the work of Satan. The new proposal was modified to have 10 storey blocks instead, but still this was and still is causing shock waves in Lucan even though Lucan is now a vast sprawl of low rise semi detached houses that spread out for miles. Local politicians from the Green party are the key organisers behind objections. Tossers.

ParticipantDoes anyone have an email address for An Taisce? I’m interested in sending them a mail – if only to let off a bit of steam. Fruitless exercise I know but I’ve got to let them know how I feel !!!!!! Arrggggggghhhhhhh!!!!
WillC
Participantyeah read that too in the paper today. I really hope the high rise building gets the go-ahead. It looks fantastic and would be a great landmark for the area. it reminds me of that exclusive hotel in Dubai – can’t remember the name of it.
But then again, An Taisce seem to object to anything like this and willl probably end up ruining this proposal too. They make my blood boil . . . . . ugggggghhhh !!! The ultimate spoil sports
WillC
ParticipantI can’t say I’m surprised they had to revise their date.
WillC
ParticipantI agree completely. How the heck can 5 storeys be considered high? With all due respect to the chap that started the thread, this kind of mentality in Ireland drives me crazy.
No wonder we have the most boring skylines in Europe. Endless boring monotonous 4 storey crap. No room for ambition. God forbid something tall might be built in Ireland and cause evil shadows across the land !
WillC
ParticipantWhere are the 12-14 storey towers awaiting approval?
WillC
ParticipantWhe the flippin’ heck are the results of the competition being announced? It says in the ddda website that a result would be announced in mid June. We’re kinda past that date now aren’t we? But I guess that this is Ireland and everything takes forever to happen. Get a move on lads!!! Just make your decision !
WillC
ParticipantJust read an article in the Sunday Business post last week that said that work won’t start on the site until September 2004, when the existing station will be demolished.
They also said that it won’t be finished until 2006 at the earliest. Apparently it needs to be finished before 2007 in any case, so it’s probably gonna be at least 3 years before you see anything worth looking at!
