Thanks for that Devin, that looks like it was a really inspired plan not only hugely improving Georges St but also opening up Dublin Castle to the public. Really hope it re-surfaces..

Thanks for that pvc king, here’s hoping..

Agreed about the state of the shopfronts on Aungier Street… this whole stretch has loads of potential but needs some serious improving first.

I think it would make a big difference to Geroge’s St if the block at the Dame Street end of the street on the city hall side could be given a bit of a face lift …. it really is an eyesore.

I can’t say I’m mad on the redesign, though maybe the finished product would be more mipressive than the drawing. Any improvement on the current monstrosity would be welcome…

Speaking of the Gresham wasn’t it supposed to be upgraded to a 5 star, and wasn’t there a plan to revamp the Royal Dublin Hotel?

Thanks, shame (to my knowledge) they haven’t had a more prominent role since.

Who designed IFSC phase I? I believe STW were responsible for the bland industrial estate style crap that is phase II. At least the south docks are (in places) an improvement on that..

Is it the Kevin Roche designed NCC which is to be built or a different building?

The building looks great, I agree that it is a shame about the state of some of its neightbours though! Does anyone know when the licences for the fast food units etc expire? Wasn’t the council planning on not renewing these? Also does anyone know when the units along the median are going in? They seem to have been kind of forgotten about….. Thanks.

The modern test of adequate light is 1 “lumen” per square foot at 850mm above the floor. A lumen is the light given by 1 candle at a distance of one foot. Other planning rules may also apply. You’ve then got to establish substantial interference….. This is actually English law but I think the rules in Ireland may be similar. You would need to consult your own lawyer for details (my comments aren’t meant as advice).

A right to light is a continuous easement, so to establish a claim you must show you have enjoyed it for 20 years nec vi (without force), nec clam (without secrecy), nec precario (without permission). The quality of light protected is poor though.

Yeah, it seems it will build on the earlier suggestions about providing more restaurants on the northside etc. The development at Arnotts might be an example of one of the “radical interventions” alright..
