ParticipantHmm. Looks pretty nice. Surprised they demolished it, could have put the cathedral in a slightly different place and kept that.
Edit: Whats the second church-like structure to the right?? Kil-somethingorother?? Cant remember the name.

Participant:rolleyes: Cllr.B.Bermingham’s inclusion on an all expenses paid junket to San Francisco seems to have gone to his head, he wants to “unstraighten” Patrick’s Hill and make it like Lombard Street.
Quote; ”Often billed as the “crookedest street,” “Lombard Street is San Francisco’s- and America’s best known crookedest street. The steep, hilly street was created with sharp curves to switchback down the one-way hill past beautiful Victorian mansions, [built with eight switchbacks on a 40-degree slope]”. The street is paved with bricks and is an amazing site to see. Hordes of tourists come every year to see this famous street”He also wants, “The Installation of the unique San Francisco’s Cable Car from a suitable location in St. Patrick Street to the summit and return.’
All this from a Councillor that is incapable of getting a pothole filled, Fine Gael must be very proud?
What a nutcase π Stupidest plan I’ve ever heard for Cork. A cable car? Up a crooked Patricks Hill?
Wow

ParticipantBear in mind it is just the eastern mainline open, the N85 section is a few months off yet.
That said, the most important bit is open π

Participant..and does anyone have plans of it or the Carrigtwohill – Midleton scheme π
THE_Chris
ParticipantAnd Midleton residents will be delighted to know that CPOs are going out this year for the upgrading of the N25 from Carrigtwohill – Midleton to a higher standard, with removal of median crossings.
I’d rather the money went elsewhere personally, but people on here will probably like it π

ParticipantLets have a Cat 3 ILS installed while you’re at it folks π
THE_Chris
ParticipantYou got a link to this anywhere?? COuldnt find it. Wouldnt mind seeing a breakdown of the monies.

There is a total revamp of the shopping centre involved. I am told that it includes a small multi story parking development. Tescos will be located closer to the douglas west side.
Thats interesting with the Tescos already there. Maybe that means the current Tescos will be CPOed and the new South Ring Douglas junction put in??

ParticipantIm sad at this, that Ferry was a part of my youth π Went on it many times, and could see it from the bedroom window in my old house π

ParticipantI hope the Amgen people are leaving enough room to grade separate the nearby junction for when the road is done π
Would be hilarious if some of their shiny new factory got CPOed π

ParticipantA few more π This is on the way back down again, so its pretty much the last of them π
Some bells from the side –

Closeup –

Small bells –

Near the bottom, there are the ‘builders little things’, bits that they put in as their own little mark when they were building the cathedral. They take the form of lizards climbing up one of the windows.

The other –

ParticipantIm glad this is going in. Irish cities need more high rise. Its the only way forward rather than the disturbing urban sprawl thats going on at the moment.

ParticipantSome more π
Pics of the gargoyle type things near the top (noone ever sees these from the street, its cool that they’re up there)

Looking over the side – see the plinths and the two holes to fit the statues in π

Posted this view in the Cobh thread, but theres more Cathedral in this one –

Looking down through the metal grilled floor, notice the wires controlling the bells –

And heres a better view. Was in a hurry to get these, lets just say you dont want to be nearby when these things start ringing π
