Im just happy that despite a long campaign, Mr. Mulvihill didnt get in in Cork East. He’s useless as a Cobh councillor – I dread to think how bad he would be as a TD.

Mr. Stanton in again – the only politician that has ever actually helped us with things. Kudos to him.

I think he means KM. I seem to remember the scheme being ~60km long, only slightly more than the N6 Galway – Ballinasloe which weighs in at 57km.

The problems at Aer Rianta stem from the days when Noel Hanlon was in charge. Many of the top management just gave up under his rule and anyone with talent left like rats from a sinking ship. The result has been paralysis in terms of decision making as the present management is extremely weak and are mere puppets in north Dublin politics. The organisation is run from the perspective of what benefits the unions and the vested interests. The users, pax, and the general public get the short end of the stick I’m afraid.
As for Cork, I think that while new facilities were badly needed but the project costs just skyrocketed – which is what happens when there is no good oversight/project management and when the parties involved know the state will be footing the bill! Meanwhile the debate has got bogged down on a political promise (always dodgy) rather than focusing on how it all went tits up in the first place. No one got sacked, reprimanded, or otherwise blamed. The show just goes on, and I fear that we will be heading for another disastrous and costly sequel in the case of DUB’s new terminal.
As for the CAA and their management credentials, I have no idea how competent they are although early signs are not too encouraging (hiring another set of consultants to tell them what to do when dealing with HQ sounds like a cop out, and an expensive one at that!). However, I think SNN and ORK should be responsible for their own actions and should be cast away from under the DAA’s shadow and let to fend for themselves. At the very least, the CAA will be answerable to themselves and the people of Munster and the whole ‘It’s Dublin’s fault’ will no longer be a reasonable answer/excuse. Alas, Cork Airport in particular has many issues re its location (the windiest and wettest part of the county) and if independence comes with a 100m Euro debt the the airport will basically struggle to survive as a going concern.

    Very good post.

Tho a lot of Corks problems could easily be solved if they scrapped the CatII landing system and put in a CatIII. I am flabbergasted that this wasnt done as part of the new terminal project.

Does anyone have any pics of the old Rahoon Flats, and info on when they were knocked down and what was built in their place? Thanks.

This, if I remember correctly, was the main Cathedral in Passau, Bavaria. I have no idea if this is a rebuild after the war, but I dont reckon it is. Dont think Passau got hammered too badly.

First we have some wrought iron work. Nothing do do with a church at all, its just good.

    Outside the cathedral –

Pics of the inside of the cathedral. Lighting wasnt brilliant, but here ya go.

Folks I’ll be very interested to see what ye make of these.

Several years ago, I went to the south of Germany with a few friends, and had heard a few of the German churches were quite grand. Found the pics there a while back and thought I’d share them.

Heres the first place… I have no idea what town this was in, all I know is that its in the South of Germany somewhere.

Note how there are two of the most hated things here – no altar rails and the small square altar.

From the outside it looks plain as anything, but inside is another story.

Theres more to come from some other Churches out there.

Let me know what ye think of all these and what ye think of the layouts.

Im just always in disbelief and the number of times I say the words “How can they possibly be doing something so STUPID” is scary πŸ˜€

I think the solution to this road is….

Build an M3, Navan etc need it IMO.
Remove the 2 tolls, one is enough.
Move the bloody thing. Fancy trying to build it next to the Hill of Tara. Thats just stupid no matter what way you look at it.

Put the thing on a different alignment , remove one of the tolls (or both) and noone would be making such a fuss.

Fix up the rail now too.

I think they should keep the touristy boat visits. Is cool to visit a ship there occasionally, and is nice to see various navy ships right next to the road.

Yeah I hate those, need to be fixed.

Were they only temporary? Whats the story behind them?

You gotta have a new bridge there somewhere…… but it has to be risable or rotating etc. Not a huge number of ships come up there anyway, but they have to keep the waterway open in this way.

I thought there was soon to be a Glanmire station?? I could be wrong though.

In any case it wont be used because its so far from Glanmire that you might as well drive into Cork rather than just to the station.

In other words its a long bus, NOT a tram. I wish they’d stop advertising it as a tram, because its not.

Bus trams are a farce, screw them,

20 extra buses isnt that much. Its a START, thats all.

This smacks of electioneering, who funded this at this wonderfully opportune time?
