a three platform station – a complete waste of time 😡
after all this time and with the transport fiasco that is dublin city another finger is put in the dam…a perfect site for a grand station with links to mainline, an underground, luas, buses and so on…god forbid the idea that a rail link might some day happen between ireland and britain to facilitate the eurostar!!!
so from a mini manhattan completely out of context and ludricious in design to a half assed ill thought out idea with no real concept of the value of the site. sometimes it really does make you ask why do you even consider the likelihood of some one with enough brains and bollocks to put the bit between the teeth and get something right from the start!!! 😡well done and an invaluable source of info for anyone vaguely interested in architecture and development in the auld sod.
i found this site by accident too a few years ago and love it. great way of keeping up with news and info at home plus links to all sorts of news the world over.
cheers 😀i always thought it would be great to see a canopy old school style extended from the savoy with lights etc. and old fashioned movie poster stands like i have seen in france – cylinder drums with 2 posters each
plus we could do with a couple of major incentives like a new super cinema a la leicester sq. a major music store or bookshops to attract people there. the abbey moving there would be a great step in the right direction.
as for the rest keep dreaming i guess…the obvious idea all along has been to move the abbey to the carlton site and give O’Connell St a real focal point. the carlton facade would be a great starting point and all the necessary space would be there to allow for access and so on to the backstage area for props etc. this was a big problem apparently in the old abbey.
if all goes well with the rejuvenation plan for the street and with some more good ideas then O’Connell St could really become the grand parade it should be. i doubt if it will ever happen but all the fast food joints should be banned as well!debate can be a polite form of fist fight and at worst a confusing exercise in i know bigger words than you! however persiflage is a gem and wit and a piss take are just that so keep your socks on gareth ace!

anything over 3 paragraphs tends to get skipped and if you are that thin skinned sod off and play somewhere else…..and you can take your football!
this is a usefull and interesting site for keeping up with the news at home. in terms of development news, design, copmetitions and so on but i dont need to waste time reading whingeing and bullshit tit for tat cat fight rubbish.
